Barbara Crosthwait - Choir Director & Organist
Barbara is a native Texan, growing up in the Panhandle, mostly in Pampa, just northeast of Amarillo. She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary music at Hardin-Simmons University where she met her husband, Lloyd. She received her master’s degree in education from Stephen F. Austin State University.
She is retired from teaching after 34 years, all but three teaching elementary music. Barbara’s love of music was instilled in her by her father, and she has extensive experience in choral music. She has sung in church choirs since childhood and worked under many fine directors. Her music experiences range from bluegrass to musical theater to classical.
Barbara and her husband have been members of Grace since 1999, and she has served as organist since 2000 and choir director since 2001. This is the “cherry on top” for her as she is able to use what she learned in performance to enable others to experience the joy of choral singing.
Her goal for the choir at Grace is to contribute to congregational worship and enhance the service through music. Her greatest joy comes when God is glorified and honored through what they do.
She and Lloyd have two children and six absolutely amazing grandchildren. She enjoys reading, scrapbooking and her two dogs, a German shepherd and miniature schnauzer.
